“Snow Day” – An Original (Very) Short Story

I’m awake but my eyes are still closed. Must be awake before Dylan today – he hasn’t come to wake me up yet. I roll over in my bed and stick my foot out from under my blankets. Instantly I suck it back in – my room is freezing. Well, freezing is an exaggeration. More like chilly.

I nestle down further under the covers only to open my eyes and check the time. 10:36?! Oh my gosh, I’m so late for school! I start to throw off my blankets but pause when I hear my Mom and little brother Dylan downstairs. Huh, I wonder why they didn’t wake me up today. . . Is it Saturday? No, its Wednesday – we’re supposed to have that algebra test today. Is it a holiday? No, Thanksgiving was last week and Christmas break hasn’t started yet. Am I sick? No, definitely not sick. Hmm. . . I wonder what’s going on?

I turn my head and notice a white glow coming from behind my closed curtains. That’s strange, the light is never that pale.

I get up and walk across the – still chilly – room, and over to my window. I let out a gasp as I draw back the curtains.

The street and all its features have practically disappeared under a thick layer of white. The ground is no longer visible, and the trees and bushes are heavy with the sparkly substance. Large flakes fall from the grey sky, and gleaming icicles hang from the white roofs. I can feel the – now freezing – air from behind my window panes, and my breath fogs up the glass as I gaze out over the beautiful landscape.

Snow day.

I was recently inspired to write this super short story because of all the snow we’ve been getting in Canada. Its been pretty chilly lately! Also, I haven’t posted any of my writing/fanfic lately, so I thought you might like to read some! I hope you enjoyed it!

Have a great week everyone!

– Meredith :)

P.S. – If you have any suggestions for short stories or fanfiction that I could write, let me know in the comments and I’ll see what I can do! ;) You can check out my other short stories/fanfic here.
