A Quick and Rainy Stop in Montreal – Quebec Trip Part 1

Hello everyone! I hope you’re having a lovely day!

Today, I’m kicking off a 3-part series about my recent trip to the Canadian province of Quebec! Our trip was a total of 4 days. We walked beautiful cities, ate delicious food and had so much fun! The first stop on our road trip was a quick visit to Montreal. Even though we only stayed there for one night, we enjoyed walking the Old Port of Montreal and seeing a small part of the city. Do you want to see it, too? Keep reading! ;)

The first part of the trip was actually getting there. We had about a 5 hour drive from Toronto to Montreal, and it rained on us almost the entire time!

However, in my opinion, rain is perfect reading weather, so on the way I enjoyed reading The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien – the first installment in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. (More on that in an upcoming post.)

As soon as we crossed the Ontario border and entered Quebec, everything was written in French. Road signs, restaurants, stores – French was the only language to be seen! For example: KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) is PFK in Quebec – Poulet Frit Kentucky. Luckily, I took a beginner French course this year, so I was able to read and understand some of it.

By the time we arrived and got settled in Montreal, it was late in the evening, so we only had an hour or two to explore the city. We were very hungry from traveling all day, so our first mission was to find some dinner. And guess what we chose?

Yep, we traveled all the way to Quebec just to eat barbecue XD. But hey, we’re American, so when we saw the sign for award-winning barbecue we just had to try it. And I must say, it was delicious! If you ever travel to Montreal, I’d definitely recommend Lattuca Barbecue for a delicious meal of savory meat, sweet coleslaw, and yummy baked beans.

After our tasty meal, we headed down to the Old Port of Montreal to walk around and enjoy the view. They had a massive ferris wheel there called The Montreal Observation Wheel, and it was beautiful!

After walking around for a bit, the sun disappeared and was replaced with rain, so we hurried back through the streets to the hotel.

Once we made it back to our room and dried off, we watched the exciting game in which the Toronto Raptors won the NBA Championship!! (GO RAPTORS!!) We set out for the next part of our Quebec adventure the next day, so you’ll have to stay tuned for tomorrow’s post to see that!

I hope you enjoyed reading Part 1 of our Quebec trip, and have a great day!

  1. *squeaks* I was thereeeeeeeeee! That sounds great Meredith, and even cooler that you got to go when it wasn’t freezing cold… unlike one poor family who went for Christmas and froze as a result. :P

    1. I actually remembered you went when I was writing this and re-read your post about it! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Yes, Iโ€™m so glad it was warmer when we went, even though it was raining. :P
