A Wintery Post // It’s Snowing Outside and Seasons are Changing

It’s snowing, y’all.

It started out as just a few flurries, but now it’s really coming down outside my bedroom window. Fall is over, winter is coming, and there’s nothing we can do to stop it – the seasons must change.

Life is pretty similar, ya know? As much as we may want to remain in one season of our lives, there is no “pause” button to keep the future from approaching. We just have to go with the flow, and when winter comes, we must pull out our warm clothes to face it. We can equip ourselves with the necessary things to help us brave the new seasons in our lives, as well as the changing of the weather.

I love winter because of everything that comes with it. Most people criticize winter because it brings cold weather, snow, and ice, but I prefer to focus on the nice and cozy things this season offers. Lets make a list, shall we?

  • Sweatpants, sweatshirts, sweaters, wool socks, fuzzy socks, and warm clothes in general.
  • Fireplaces being lit
  • Hot chocolate with lots of marshmallows
  • Christmas break
  • Gingerbread
  • Good books
  • Blankets and pillows
  • Crocheting hats, mittens, scarves, and other things for my loved ones
  • Going to sleep and waking up with a lovely blanket of snow on the ground
  • Movie marathons
  • Writing stories
  • Holiday music
  • Sledding
  • Cozy pajamas
  • Christmas lights
  • Pine-scented candles
  • Building snowmen
  • Baking treats
  • Coats
  • Evergreen trees clothed with snow
  • Snow boots
  • Building blanket forts and having sleepovers in them with your siblings
  • Messy bun hats

We may be approaching new seasons in our lives as winter is coming, but even if the big picture is cold and unpleasant, there are always little things to bring us joy amidst the snow and ice. These things provide comfort while helping us face the season ahead. And just like winter, this new season will pass and give way to spring – a time of blooming and growth. But while we wait for spring, we have everything we need to brave the weather and embrace winter while it lasts.

So let’s admire the snow before it melts.

  1. Ooh love the list of cozy winter things you made! :D <3 Personally, I don't love winter because of how dreary the outdoors get where I live, but there are so many perks to being cooped up inside all nice and cozy. I love the inspirational bit you added to this post! I really needed to read it – I've been feeling greatly discouraged recently, and I'm working on remaining thankful for what the Lord has given me, even when the big picture makes me sad. Hardships are undesirable, but the change they bring about within us is absolutely beautiful.
Praying you stay safe during the snow you guys are getting! <3

  4. I loved this post, Meredith! I agree, so many people tend to focus on the negative elements of winter, rather than the good and positive things! And yes, I agree, messy bun hats are the best! <3
